This toolkit was developed as part of the Erasmus+ KA210-YOU project Social Action Photography with Head, Heart, Hands (PH3) to support youth workers in using photography as a participatory tool for inclusion, expression, and community engagement.

Aims of the tool

This guide is intended to help youth workers and educators prepare, organize, and facilitate training sessions with young people and professionals in the youth field. It provides tools to implement social action photography, photovoice sessions, and photowalks—empowering participants to reflect on their context and promote positive change through visual storytelling.

Description of the tool

A toolkit created within the Social Action Photography with Head, Heart, Hands (PH3) project (Italy-France, 2024–2025), co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme. This resource supports youth workers in using photography and visual storytelling as participatory methodologies to engage young people in exploring identity, social inclusion, and their urban environment.

The approach is inspired by the Head, Heart, Hands pedagogical model, which promotes holistic learning by integrating cognitive understanding (head), emotional connection (heart), and practical action (hands). This model is reflected in the structure of the toolkit:
- Activities to stimulate critical thinking and social awareness;
- Exercises to express personal and emotional experiences through images and captions;
- Practical tools to implement photowalks, workshops, and exhibitions that connect young people with their communities.

The guide includes step-by-step instructions, good practices tested with diverse groups, and adaptable templates for educational settings. It aims to foster inclusive dialogue, strengthen youth agency, and encourage the use of photography as a vehicle for civic participation and social change.
