CARE is a non-formal educational role-playing game created to raise awareness about climate change and our deep dependence on nature. Players take on the role of forest species — mammals, fungi, insects, birds, and more — and must work together to protect the forest from human expansion, while also teaching humans the value of ecosystems.
Each group holds Natural Capital tokens, representing the services ecosystems provide (like clean air, fertile soil, biodiversity). These are spent to "satisfy" human needs while trying to avoid the destruction of the forest. Over six rounds (30 years in-game), players must balance cooperation and competition to ensure survival.
