Volunteer Summer Summit 2012

The training activity took place
in Ogre, Latvia
organised by European Federation for Intercultural Learning
16-21 July 2012

Aims & objectives

• Increase volunteer motivation
• Create space to network, exchange and share volunteer practice
• Provide opportunities for effective inclusion of new organisations into the AFS/EFIL network
• Value the diversity of volunteers, their different backgrounds and cultures
• Promote European solidarity
• Provide basic and high level training opportunities
• Involve YOU(th) in Global Learning
• Raise awareness for Global Learning among AFS volunteers
• Give trainers an opportunity to train at an international event

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

150 participants from all over Europe+ several participants from Africa, Asia, US, South America

5 prep team members (Turkey, Germany, France, Hungary, Latvia)

10 trainers (Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Italy, Iceland, Belgium, Portugal, Latvia, Denmark, Thailand, Slovakia)

10 Support team members from Latvia and Denmark

Training methods used & main activities

The Summer Summit programme is 4 full working days and consista of joint plenary sessions, parallel thematic workshops of 180 minutes length for groups of 20–30 participants (divided into thematic tracks), a community project and various social activities.
All kinds of NFE methods were used.

Outcomes of the activity

Motivated and inspired volunteers throughout the network.
New cooperations between organisations (Chapter Exchanges were developed)
Deeper knowledge on Global Education within the network.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

In charge of the following workshops:

- Social Inclusion and the Structured Dialogue process
- Self-leadership
- VSS Choir

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
