Training of Trainers: inclusive Work Readiness Skills curriculum for NGO facilitators

Aims & objectives

Overall aim: “To enhance the employability skills of youth with disabilities“.

This training had a main focus on train future trainers how to deliver the program for employment skills for inclusion of youth with disabilities (YWD) in its efforts to enhance the employability skills of youth in Macedonia. Creating new prospects for participation and inclusion of YWD in Macedonia adheres to Macedonia’s law on disabilities and to the UN Convention on Human Rights, furthers USAID’s goal of inclusion of persons with disabilities in its efforts, and adds depth and dimension to the Macedonian workforce.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The participants were from the different NGO's from Macedonia who works with people with fewer opportunities and disabilities, and there was mixed nationalities - Albanian and Macedonian.
The team was consisted with four trainers:
Jovan Stalevski, Astrit Redzepi, Daniela Stojanovska and Meri Naumcevska. Trainers team reported and communicated with the coordinator and contractor from the project Saranda Arifi, project manager in Handimak-Tetovo.

Training methods used & main activities

The Work Readiness course, as a tool for non-formal learning, has been designed in a way that is participatory, active and hands-on so that youth participants are actively engaged in the learning process, have the opportunity to practice and enhance new skills, and gain the self confidence necessary to find and keep work.

The curriculum has Albanian and Macedonian version which was distributed to participants as working handouts.
Also the curriculum is adapted to be used by people with different disabilities (i.ex physical, visible, hearing and light mental disability)

I used methods as: Pair share and pair work, Small and large group discussion, Small group work, Individual work, Role plays, Inner/Outer Circle, Case studies/ scenarios, Games, Brainstorming Presentation, Panel discussion, Reflection activities - individual, guided, journal writing, Review activities

Outcomes of the activity

Every participant who completes the course have completed an individual Career Development Plan and be ready to take the next steps in a chosen career pathway and to train and motivate young people with disabilities to be productive workers in our societies.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

To deliver 3 day training in Skopje for the inclusive (modified) Work Readiness Skills curriculum for 30 NGO and DPO representatives from Skopje and the other 6 YES partner municipalities who have not previously completed a YES WRS curriculum training.

I worked on this training for 3 days as a full time trainer.
