TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Zach Piazas
The aim of the activity was to prepare the young people for the creation of public events that would foster inclusion through sharing art. To achieve this level of competence, the young people were trained on soft skill areas such as intercultural awareness, empathetic listening, detection of self-prejudice; but also on more concrete skills such as organisation of events, communication skills and promotional strategy. The training of young people addressed the need of creating an open space for people from different backgrounds to express and to connect.
The people involved in the activity were 9 young people between 20 and 25 years of age, coming from Spain, Italy and Greece.
The training was based on non-formal education, using activities that promoted intercultural communication, cooperation, reflection on behaviours and learning outcomes. The training started with creating a base for understanding on diversity and how prejudice works, and followed up on shaping the structure of the events that would be created. The structure was based on the Arte Migrante methodology.
The activity had an impact on the young people that were trained, from the perspective that they gained facilitation experience and skills regarding multicultural cooperation, events' organization, promotinal skills and fostering inclusive environments. The above were recognised during reflection moments with the group.
The participants of the events that the young people created acknowledged the events promote inclusion, expression and discovery of cultures. Source: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=233086391885789&id=152939856567110

My tasks considered the acquaintance of young people with diversity, the fostering of team-work among them, and the development of organisational and communicational skills. These took place through the implementation of non-formal education activity, followed up by debriefing moments for the recongnition of learnings. After the training, I was mentoring the group before and after each monthly event they created in order to discuss ideas, concerns and underline points of improvement.
