Aims & objectives

I was engaged as a trainer at the Training Course on the Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity building in the field of Youth (Western Balkan Youth Window) project, by name "Energy efficient baled straw ecological house". Main idea of this project is acquiring knowledge and skills to participants about using ecological materials in construction and architecture, about energy efficiency and cheaper construction and decreasing amount of organic waste in nature.

In this long-term project we were teaching participants, that are working with young people between age of 15 and 30, how to use almost forgotten methods of building energy efficient houses. We have prepared them for new possibilities of creative self employment through starting their own business.

During this long-term project young people learned to use natural, ecological, health harmless materials in creative way and acquire knowledge for easier self employment. There were also included young people with disabilities.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Target group on our training course were 24 young people actively involved in work with unemployed youth (youth workers, youth leaders, play workers, NGO activists, school teachers, peer educators, social workers and NGO volunteers).

Our participants were coming from Serbia, Albania, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Romania and Turkey.

Training methods used & main activities

We were using non-formal education methods: Team building games, group discussions, Study visit, workshops . The workshops were held by experts who taught our participants the specific techniques of building a home made of baled straw and also spoke about the benefits of such construction. Later, the participants had the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a particular house (practical work on the house, participants were helping to build this straw ball house), intercultural activities.

Outcomes of the activity

In addition to networking, the participants were given concrete knowledge of building objects from ecological materials. They may apply this knowledge in the future to other projects when working with other young people.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was one of two trainers on this project. My task was to familiar participants through non-formal education, with topic and to create a team that is ready to collaborate on some future projects with similar topics.

I worked on this training for 8 days as a full time trainer.
