Training course about media literacy "MediaED Lab"

in Rīga, Bernāti, Latvia
organised by Room of Fulfilled Dreams

Aims & objectives

- To develop participants skills to analyse and evaluate power and impact of media images and messages;

- To elaborate teaching modules that aim to develop media literacy of high school students and could be used in the context of non-formal or formal education;

- To develop participants technical and creative
abilities to use media tools for personal and
organizational needs;

- To develop participants abilities to produce alternative media messages that promote inclusion and sustainable development;

- To create meeting and discussion platform
for media educators to exchange best practices
and improve media education activities.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Training course "MediaED Lab" connected 26 young professionals who are working to advance media literacy - the ability to interpret, understand and evaluate media and its messages and to produce media content - from Latvia, Slovakia, Czech, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia and France.

Training methods used & main activities

Content analysis, group work, debates and discussions, OST, adventure drama, reflection, interactive presentations.

Outcomes of the activity

The program provided knowledge and skills relating both to current debates in the creative industries, as well as practices and pedagogy of media education. "MediaED Lab" helped to grow number of critical, knowledgeable and responsible leaders of creative and media education, capable of initiating, developing and embedding new understandings and techniques in their learning space. Information about state of media education in EU was summarized and participants learned and exchanged tools and strategies that can be used to plan and implement media education activities for high school students.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Participants' and partners' needs assessment, formulating learning objectives, designing program, preparing grant application, facilitating sessions in cooperation with one other trainer, evaluating activities and outcomes, overal management of the project.

I worked on this training for 8 days as a full time trainer.
