TC Exploring New Shores - great changes create great chances

Aims & objectives

Aim of the course is to explore the participants' needs and develop skills for self-empowerment, ownership of their life and dealing with challenging situations. On a further step the course will foster their coaching skills to support young people dealing with change in their environment.

Training objectives:
 to support young people in their personal leadership and to generate strategies and tools that serve them to use their creativity and talents to achieve their goals and dreams
 to deal with change as professional or personal learning opportunity
 to promote international volunteering, exchange experiences and to support intercultural understanding between young people from different backgrounds.
 to promote active citizenship and responsibility to make change in one's and others life
 to support “Soft skills” of young people like communications and team work

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Team: Bara Blahova (CZE) Oliver Schneitter (SWI) and Gabi Steinprinz (NED)

Participants: Czech Republic, Egypt, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, Palestine, Romania, Spain.
Target group: Youth leaders, youth workers dealing with a changing environment as volunteers or as starting professionals (involved in international volunteering programs, study programs or exchange programs). This involves dealing with change of the personal environment or supporting young people in their changing environment.

Training methods used & main activities

The program involves indoor and outdoor activities, discussions, group processes and quite some individual work.

Theatre methods for teambuilding
Anti-image - how do I want people to do see me
Emotional Gallery - associating emotions with motivation and dealing with situations
High rope park- taking risks and overcome obstacles
Council/ community circle - reflection/ sharing
Victim/ responsible chart

Outcomes of the activity

participants rated the course in general 8,5 out of 10. Some elements were too controversial, bi=ut most of them very very new, challenging and life changing.

Participants keep in touch via face book, even 1,5 year after the course. Some of them are now working on future cooperation, mainly on the topic of nature and environment.
Exploring New Shores has been done 3 times. always large number of applications. All partners are willing to continue sending people,a s they found the results very positive for their youth leaders or youth workers.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I have been involved in the training course from the idea, through concept to developing the educational activity and implementing it. This was the second part of this course.

I worked on this training for 6 days as a full time trainer.
