Aims & objectives

An interactive study -based on own experience combined with the concrete experience on the spot- on how E+ YiA project can be more than merely an experience for the involved participants. How entire communities can concretely benefit from such project, besides financially mainly in terms of educationally.
This SV focused on the results of a 5 year community project where national and international groups were 'used' for a bigger aim: to create empowerment possibilities for rural areas'. It studied the benefits, the resistence, the strategic planning, the concrete outcomes and impact and the follow up strategy.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Experienced E+ YiA 'users'. Once this SV aimed to study a good practice and the enlarged effect of any YiA project, previous experience was beneficial.
The SV aimed at 30 youth workers from The Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Belgium (French speaking part), Portugal and Denmark.

Training methods used & main activities

The entire programme was based upon the principles of Non Formal Education, and this expanded to the level of the community. Besides the different interactive visits to other good practices, this Studyvisit contained simulation exercises, debates, presentations, intercultural learning sessions, reflections, peer group support, etc.
According to the filosophy of our community project, most of the activities and methods were interspersed with the local community, hereby offering a widened learning possibility for all involved.

Outcomes of the activity

An inspirational movement of a more efficient and effective use of E+ YiA projects in regards to rural areas. This has not only been mapped/confirmed by the present group of international participants, but also concretely by the local population of the village where it all took place, as well as 50 habitants which joined us (from another rural village where this project is currently being multiplied).
