Aims & objectives

A project to raise awareness and understanding on safety issues, to develop practical safety interventions, to empower youth as safety advocates and promote gender equality. The project "Streets 4 All: Youth United for Women's Safety" aims to create safer public spaces for women, harnessing the creative thinking, enthusiasm and commitment of young people. Young people from Greece and Germany, coming from different backgrounds, will participate in this exchange to identify safety problems, discuss solutions and implement interventions that will improve women's safety in public spaces. Street harassment, such as catcalling, is a serious threat to women's safety, with emotional and physical harm often overlooked, as it has become a common phenomenon in many societies. This project seeks to highlight the importance of public safety and encourage the involvement of youth of all genders in the fight for change. The program’s goals include increasing participants’ understanding of the challenges women face in public spaces, empowering young people with advocacy, critical thinking and creative expression skills, and promoting gender equality. By fostering critical discussions about gender roles and stereotypes, the program aims to foster an inclusive and empathetic mindset in participants, encouraging them to take action to create safer societies. In addition, the program seeks to develop practical solutions and action plans that can be implemented to improve women’s safety, while creating a network of young ambassadors who are committed to promoting gender equality and improving women’s safety in the long term.
