Aims & objectives

The main objective of the training was to make youth workers aware of the potential of the innovative method of Storytelling in developing competences needed for employability.

The four main objectives of the project were:
1.enabling 20 youth workers to get to know and experience the non-formal method of Storytelling;
2.offering the 20 participants the opportunity to discover and understand the employability competences that are developed through Storytelling;
3.creating an intercultural network of youth workers and organizations that use the method of Storytelling in developing employability skills;
4.creating printed and online tools to promote the method of Storytelling in working with young people (the Storytelling Resource Pack and the Storytelling Resource Blog)

The training answered the specific need of the youth workers who are not aware of the potential of the innovative method of Storytelling in developing competences needed for employability, in their work with young people.

The organizations' main purpose is to increase the opportunities and contribute to the development of non-formal methods of education in their community. The main goal of the organization is very related to the trainings' aim and goals.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The participants attending this training course were youth workers, youth leaders, high school teachers, volunteers that work in the field of youth, volunteer coordinators, mentors, school psychologists.
They were coming from Romania, Portugal, Latvia, Poland, Italy and Czech Republic.

The trainers team was composed of three persons: Andrew Wright from UK, Mihaela Cardu and I, from Romania.

Training methods used & main activities

In the training there were combined different methods to serve the achievement of high results.
The course was prepared and was run on the basis of a methodology that emphasizes active participation and commitment of all it’s members. The activities were closely related to the storytelling method, public speaking, shadow theatre, social educational animation, ice-breakers, role-plays, team building and outdoor activities, debates, open space and several workshops to develop life skills and competences useful for any youth worker. The working methods are the experiential learning, educator to peer and peer to peer.
Within the training the participants organized four Storytelling events in the community for the young people.

Outcomes of the activity

As a result of the training it was achieved a high level of motivation and empowerment of the participants to work using the method of Storytelling develop competences needed for employability.
It was created a network of youth workers who use storytelling on a regular basis.
There were delivered four Storytelling events for young people in the community.
It was created the Storytelling Resource Pack with a collection of good practices , ideas and information shared and developed during the training regarding the Storytelling method used in developing employability competences among young people.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was fully involved in the process from the stage of developing the project concept, preparing the application and the training program, creating the workshops, delivering sessions, evaluation and editing the Storytelling Resource Pack.
