SpeakUp!

The training activity took place
in Villach, Austria
organised by wEunite
14.08.-21.08.2015

Aims & objectives

This training course was based on the use of language in various situations. The focus was put on rhetorical devices and strategies for self-marketing and leading or taking part in discussions, but also on how to use language for mediation.
„SpeakUp!” had the goal to teach young people how to use language in an appropriate and efficient way according to different situations they will face in life.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Youth leaders, youth workers and those interested in it from Austria, Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic and Turkey.

Training methods used & main activities

Participants learnt by doing. After short input they were asked to prepare within a short amount of time "nonsense speeches" in order to get speaking and learning.

Another activity was creatively preparing and acting out short sketches on the topic of turning negative into positive thoughts. Participants got a situation that they had to turn into positive light.

American debate was another activity. Participants got different quotes to debate on and convince each other with arguments.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants were very active throughout the projects and shared positive results after having been back home. Also there was a high increase from day one to the last day in speaking qualities and decreasing nervousness.
