TOY - Trainers Online for Youth

The goal of this training is to provide work contextualized knowledge/information about youth mental health/mental disorders and relevant community youth mental health services resources to those involved in youth work. This training aims to increase the competences of applicants about young people’s development and the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
The objectives of this training focused on :
Identify risk factors and warning signs of mental health and addiction problems
Identify professional, peer and self-help resources available
Identify what ‘stigma’ is in relation to mental illness generally
Provide the chance to meet potential international and reliable partners to develop future projects.
The target group was youth workers aiming to cultivate competences on handling situations involving young people and mental health issues.
This was an international training for 25 youth workers from Belgium, Malta, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Finland, UK.
During the training, we used non-formal methodology techniques team building activities simulation games techniques from systemic psychotherapy, drama therapy, art therapy, solution-focused therapy.
The youth workers increased their competences in gaining new techniques in order to open doors with youngsters facing mental health challenges.
They came across with their strengths and limitations and they are aware when is the right time to refer youngsters to a mental health professional.
