Aims & objectives

The seminar brought together youth workers and specialists working with young people of Ukraine to deepen the understanding and share practice about the role of youth work in addressing the emotional and mental health challenges affecting young people caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Objectives of the seminar:
- To analyse the current challenges and needs of young Ukrainians in terms of emotional and mental well-being as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
- To share existing practices and expertise in youth work with young people affected by traumatic events.
- Share and discuss the results and expertise of the Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III project on trauma-informed youth work.
- To propose recommendations for youth work with young people facing emotional and mental health issues due to military conflict and related crimes.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Trainers' team consisted of trainers from Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland.
30 participants were representatives of CoE members states, namely Armenia, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, Kosovo, Ukraine.

Training methods used & main activities

The programme of the activity was based on the principles and approaches of non-formal learning, building from the experiences and practices of the participants. It was feature lectures from experts, sessions to explore deeper and share good practices, as well as to co-create recommendations and initiatives.

Outcomes of the activity

- Participants has shared their experience of youth work in supporting mental well-being of young people affected by war;
- Best practicies of youth work in supporting mental well-being were exchanged and practiced;
- Context and challenges of youth work in supporting mental well-being of young people affected by war was shared among representatives of member states;
- List of recomendations and a report on further development of youth work in supporting mental well-being of young people affected by war was published for internal use of the Youth Department.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

• Attending online and offline preparatory meetings focused on the programme sessions outlines, as well as the daily planning and debriefing meetings of the educational team;
• Drafting the programme of the seminar, describing the methodology and identifying and developing activities to be offered in the framework of the seminar;
• Identifying, proposing and briefing potential experts on mental health of young people exposed to critical situations
• Developing session outlines and other required documents in the preparation process, such as information for participants, etc.
• Delivering the seminar programme and facilitating activities and/or sessions of the seminar based on the approaches outlined in the Quality standards in education and training activities of the Council of Europe Youth Department.

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
