TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Mojca Galun
The training activity aimed to foster understanding, solidarity, and active citizenship among young people from different countries. The basic training was held for 8 days and was combined with field visits to scout units across the Balkans. Participants explored the cultures and traditions of scouting groups, building connections and deepening their understanding of cultural diversity. The activity addressed the need for young people to develop communication skills, especially in English, and to enhance their confidence in interacting with peers from different backgrounds. It also supported the development of organizational and leadership skills necessary for international cooperation, aligning well with the organizations' goals to promote democratic values, solidarity, and intercultural dialogue among youth.
The target group for the activity consisted primarily of youth from diverse backgrounds, including scouts and rural youth from Slovenia, as well as teachers, rescuers, and volunteers from Turkey. Participants ranged from primary and secondary school students to university students and young adults, engaging across multiple sections such as rescue teams, scouting groups, and various sports clubs. This international training involved Turkey, represented by the organization Gesotim, and Slovenia, represented by Rod Bičkova skala.
This training used various non-formal learning methods to create an engaging and reflective experience. We began with icebreakers to help participants break down stereotypes, fostering open conversations on democracy, politics, and values. This approach encouraged participants to challenge preconceptions and build mutual understanding early on.
The results of this training included inspiring changes in attitudes and behaviours, and encouraging participants to adopt a more open-minded and proactive approach to both intercultural interactions and personal development. It also led to an increased understanding of democratic values, political views, and practices, while enhancing participants’ ability to confidently express and discuss their opinions and listen to others with open minds. Furthermore, participants developed stronger communication and leadership skills, equipping them with the tools to lead and thrive in diverse and challenging environments.
As the lead trainer, I was responsible for designing and structuring the training program, ensuring it met the participants' needs and objectives. I facilitated key sessions, and guided activities, and worked closely with co-trainers to ensure a smooth delivery. My role also included providing individual support, monitoring participant progress, and overseeing the evaluation process to measure outcomes.
