“School Student Rights Reloaded” TOT

in Brussels, Belgium
organised by OBESSU

Aims & objectives

To ensure the school student leads on the work plan, a Coordination Team (CT) with representatives of School
Student Unions will be appointed to lead the process, supported by the Pool of Trainers. The CT meeting and the Training of Trainers were two events that run in parallel, and some activities were done jointly as both groups were expecred to work on the project together in complementary ways. The CT meeting lasts 3 days and the Training of Trainers 5 days.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

As OBESSU is an international youth organisation targeting high school students, the generic target group of the training were potential professionals eager to become youth work trainers. This ToT session brough together trainers from 2 countries (Azerbaijan & Spain) and representatives of the secretariat of OBESSU which consists of foreigners (as organising team). Below are the nationalities represented:
- Bosnia & Herzegivina
- Czech Republic
- Serbia
- Ireland
- Spain
- North Macedonia
- United Kingdom
- Netherlands

Training methods used & main activities

- World Cafe Format
- Mapping of current experience and practices related school students advocacy
- Introduction to the experiential learning cycle (Kolb's learning cycle)
- Human Rights Education methods and activities based on COMPASS and ''Have Your Say'' manual by Council of Europe)

Outcomes of the activity

Training brought together 10 youth workers and activities willing to become trainers. During 5 days ToT participants learned
- Method and methodoligies
- Non-formal education tools, its values and principles
- Forms of youth participation
- Meaingful youth participation and citizenship education concepts

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

• Join at least 2 online preparatory meetings with the organisers;
• Join in person 1 preparatory day before the beginning of the event;
• Prepare and facilitate session outlines for each of the sessions and provide a safe environment for all
participants;
• Follow the 2 parallel tracks happening during the activity, and if needed adapt parts of the programme based
on the input from the CT meeting;
• Have an evaluation with the coordinator during the training and a final evaluation after the event;
• Prepare a final report 15 days after the meeting, at the latest;
• Ability to contribute to work in an intercultural team of trainers and experts;
• Proficient user of the English language, both in written and spoken English;
• Experience in school student activism will be considered an asset.

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
