Sailors on the Citizenship XXL Fair

The training activity took place
in Liberec - Czech Republic
organised by LOS
8th - 16th May 2010

Aims & objectives

The training aim was to motivate & empower participants to start projects in the YOUTH IN ACTON Programme and improve the quality of these projects by multiplying this experience, raising awareness that international cooperation can result in a different approach of the target group, which can be powerful, practical and sustainable. One of the features that fitted the goals of the organisations involved was the Tool Fair (Good Practice Exchange) that happened during the programme. It was a great opportunity for the leaders’ team and some participants to share tools and positive methods that have been successful for them in their work.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training team (educationnal team) was composed by 5 members from Poland, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Germany and me (Brazil). The target group was the 50 youth workers and youth leaders from Youth in Action Programme countries and South East Europe, gathering in total around 25 countries.

Training methods used & main activities

During the event we developed various NFE methods, besides the “forming” group dynamic (ice-breaking, name learning and team buildings), we also introduced methods of participation (role playing – city council discussions), simulations (ICL orientated), various forms of group discussion and presentation (using visual tools). We also had the full evaluation process (with daily reflections and evaluations, in groups and personal). Some of the activities were based in Educational Pack and Domino (Council of Europe – Youth Division manuals)

Outcomes of the activity

The training was consired a success taking in count the high evaluation of the participants, the team and the hosting organisation. The training achieved 50 youth workers and leader trained with new concepts, competences and tools to work with participation (from local to European level) gained. Also the training developed some new methods that were added in the Sailors’Tool (http://www.sailorstraining.eu/tools.htm) and some advertisement campaigns added in the Sailors Youtube channel (search Sailors on the Citizenship, in youtube), beside of 3 other follow-up trainings (Sailors on the Citizenship Germany and Sailors on the Citizenship – Discovering Africa – 2 trainings). Also the impact in the media with the event being pubished in the newspapers of the region and an interview with the organisers in the morning show of a national TV channel.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My role was to be a senior trainer and educational adviser. We implemented the workshops during the activity and also monitored the learning process of the participants. As educational adviser I supported and gave feedback on the tools/methods that the participants introduced in the Tool Fair, in order to suggest possible adaptations and ways of implementations. After I was one of the responsables for the final evaluation of the event. Those responsbilities were shared inside the training team of the event.

I worked on this training for 7 days days as a full time trainer.
