Aims & objectives

The main aim of the project was to make citizenship attractive to young people in local, national, international and global level. The training intended to clarify the “European Citizenship” from a “buzz” word to a understandable concept that is more related with action and practice than treaties and politics, it would help the youth workers and trainers that took part in this project to develop methods and activities to attract young people in the process of Europe and European Union, in a more practical and friendly based.
The organisation that hosted that activity was connected with the City council and the training was also a way to birng the european concepts and visions to a local and natioanl level approach, where young people should be involved in the process.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The team was composed by me, my colleagues Kasia Szajda from Poland and Ondrej Lochman from Czech Republic as senior trainers and 2 support staff from Portugal..This training course had 24 participants from 12 different European Union countries.

Training methods used & main activities

During the training we used different methods and approaches. From teambuilding and get to know each other moments (based in some Compass exercises, like signal learning game, to some adapted exercises like Bingo and True or False) to Group Discussions (Yes or No, silent discussions, etc) to creative presentation (introduction of an approach of 4 pilars for citizenship based in Sense of Belonging, Participation, Rights and Duties and Responsibility). Also we used role-play games (theater in history of citizenship and naturalisation tests) from creative presentation like EuroTV show (with introductions of European themes in TV format – commercials, soap operas, news, etc). The team also developed daily reflection and “feedback of the feedback” of the results of the daily evaluations (small groups with each trainer), beside the mid-team and final evaluation (personal and group). The flow and some activities were inspired by Training Kit nº 7 (Citizenship).

Outcomes of the activity

The training was consired a success taking in count the high evaluation of the participants, the team and the hosting organisation. The training achieved 24 youth workers and leader trained with new concepts and competences to work with citizenship (from local to European level) gained. Also the training developed 5 new methods that were added in the Sailors’Tool (http://www.sailorstraining.eu/tools.htm) and some advertisement campaigns added in the Sailors Youtube channel (search Sailors on the Citizenship, in youtube), beside of 2 other follow-up trainings (Sailors on the Citizenship Germany and Sailors on the Citizenship – Discovering Africa).
