The objectives of the training are:
=> to learn how to combine practical sailing experience with non-formal education, experiential and adventures education and use it in youth work;
=> to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are needed to sail safely in a team and support others aboard;
=> to learn how to design and implement both the learning program and logistics for youth projects with sailing activities;
=> to learn, adjust and create non-formal education methods for youth sailing projects;
=> to discover sailing as personal development tool for themselves and working with youth;
=> to map sailing opportunities for youth in partner countries;
=> to collect the existing experiences and develop the guidelines for youth workers, leaders and sailors on how to organize local and international sailing youth projects.
Participants were 20 youth workers from 7 countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Croatia and Estonia.
Team: 2 skippers from Latvia and Lithuania and 2 trainers from Latvia.
Team building and getting to know each other activities, practical tasks and group discussions for the discovery of 8 life-learning competences, learning diaries and learning-buddies, group dynamics in theory and practice, learning by doing approach while practicing sailing as a method in youth work and tool for personal development; experiential and adventurous education in theory and practice; local workshop practice in groups - planning, implementation and evaluation.
The youth workers gained practical sailing skills and the methods of how to apply sailing as a tool in youth work. They also developed international network for local and international future collaborations.
