Aims & objectives

The main goal of the project is to enhance equity, respect for human rights, social cohesion and active citizenship through building the capacity of youth organizations to use Theatre of the Oppressed methodology.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training was targeting youth workers, coordinators, facilitators and/or trainers from civil society organizations (formal or informal) active in the area of human rights and empowerment of young people, and who have significant interest in social theatre/ theatre of the oppressed or theatre as a tool for social change.
The participants were resident of the following countries: Poland, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey!

The main goal of the project is to enhance equity, respect for human rights, social cohesion and active citizenship through building the capacity of youth organizations to use Theatre of the Oppressed methodology.

The structure of the project was as follows:
1. Selection and preparation of the participants (April-May 2022)
2. First residential training course, which aimed to develop basic working competencies with Theatre of the oppressed methodology. The course was focused on Image and Forum Theatre Methods as well as Jokering in these methods. (Balestrand/Norway 7-16th June 2022)
3. Local activities in each community. Each national team or participant had to implement a forum theatre performance on a topic relevant to the local community, for at least 50 young people. The educational team provided a support manual (June-November 2022)
4. Second residential training course, which aimed to develop advance competencies in Theatre of the Oppressed methodology. It also included space for exchanging lessons from the local activities, session for developing facilitation skills in the context of Theatre of the Oppressed, learning how to work with the Newspaper Theatre method and developing Jokering skills for this method (Balestrand/Norway 10-19th November 2022)
5. Local activities. Each team or participants had to prepare and implement a new round of performances, this time using Newspaper Theatre for at least 30 young people – November 2022 - March 2023
6. Evaluation of the process and impact of the project–online (March-April 2023)

Training methods used & main activities

Non-formal education and experiential learning specific activities: getting to know each-other, simulation, specific theatre activities, games, exercises, image theatre, experiential learning process by developing (step by step), implementing and evaluating a Forum theatre and Newspaper theater performance, group discussions and reflection, practical exercises for role of Joker, etc.

-More than 800 young people more engaged and involved in their communities
