Aims & objectives

Training course by name “Promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding” has implemented in period of 22-27/08/2011 in Ohrid, Macedonia.

Main aim of this training course was - to raise the capacities of the youth NGO's from Europe and to promote inter-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding between young people.

Main activities of the project were related to how create and implement projects that in great sense will promote inter-cultural youth work in multicultural environments.

Objectives of this training course were:
- to promote inter-cultural youth work as a tool that fosters inter-cultural dialog;
- to educate 27 participants to create future projects that will promote inter-cultural dialog and mutual understanding in their communities and on European level;
- to promote the concept of inter-cultural learning and values in Europe;
- to promote CoE white paper on Inter-cultural dialog and create follow-up of the event.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Participants that are selected for this training course had a profile:
- Age over 20;
- Decision makers/project managers/volunteers
- Directly working with young people, with or without experience of running projects;
- Ready to take part in the whole training course;
- Have organizational support for further activities within EYF
- Able to communicate on English language fluently

The countries involved in the project were: Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Hungary, Turkey, Czech Republic and Spain.
Total number of participants was: 27

Training methods used & main activities

All activities were prepared by team of trainers using non - formal learning methods. The working methods on this training course that we used were: name games, energizers, team building games, different workshops and exercises that are related with intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding topics, real life simulations, role plays, inputs, individual and presentations in small groups, discussions, debates, NGO fair of partner promoters and session about creating the concrete project ideas.

Outcomes of the activity

The international team composed by 3 trainers was responsible for delivering training activities in this training course. Two trainers were from Macedonia and one from Serbia.

Themes that training course covered:
- inter-religious and inter-cultural dialog in youth work
- concept of inter-cultural dialog
- multiculturalism
- conflict management
- mediation
- human rights and anti-discrimination

Participants were in the position to be very active on training activities during whole training course sessions. Trainers have prepared program with interactive content that helped participants to learn and to get/share knowledge in an friendly working atmosphere.

Also, on this training course participants have learned how to create quality projects that in wider sense will promote equality, and understanding between European youth.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My role was trainer. I was one of trainers in this training course. In cooperation with two Macedonian trainers I worked on promoting intercultural dialog and mutual understanding. I was leading sessions and workshops during 5 days of this training course.

After every working day, team of trainers, project manager and super visor (she was sent by Council of Europe from Strasbourg) had discussions about previous activities that we done with participants. The main aim of this discussions was to make improvements in our work for the next working day.

Also, this team meeting was great opportunity for trainers to get feedback from each other.

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
