TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Javier Larios
The training addressed the need for young people and youth workers to better understand how media shapes perceptions, influences conflict, and contributes to peacebuilding processes.
-Through interactive and non-formal methods, participants:
-Learned to critically analyse content across social media and digital platforms.
-Gained tools to trace information sources and assess their reliability.
-Developed a “bias radar” to recognise and question partial viewpoints.
-Explored how media can fuel or reduce tensions in conflict contexts.
-Reflected on the role of digital storytelling and peacebuilding in promoting intercultural understanding.
International composition of the group & team
The activity brought together a diverse group of Digital Youth Workers, Media-Focused Change Makers, and Peace Advocates aged 22 to 29. Participants represented Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Türkiye.
The training was facilitated by Hamza Al-Sahyeb and Javier Larios, combining expertise in media literacy, peacebuilding, and non-formal education.
The training focused on strengthening media literacy and equipping participants with the skills to navigate today’s digital world with confidence.
We used creative, participatory, and non-formal learning methods designed to promote active engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration. Activities included hands-on exercises, group work, meaningful discussions, and dedicated reflection spaces to deepen learning.
Methods and tools used during the training included:
Speed dating and Mission Possible activities for networking and team building.
Case study analysis and role-play exercises to explore real-life media scenarios.
Creative sessions involving drawing and conceptualising ideas.
Group discussions and media analysis using practical models and frameworks.
While some sessions integrated online tools, we also included digital detox moments in the natural surroundings of the venue, allowing participants to recharge and connect with each other and nature — balancing digital learning with mindful reflection.
A key outcome of the activity is the creation of the “Peace INfluencers Toolkit”, a set of practical resources designed for youth organisations to use in promoting peace, intercultural understanding, and responsible digital engagement.
I worked as a full-time trainer for the activity, with responsibilities including:
Creating the training concept and programme tailored to the objectives and target group.
Preparing detailed session plans, materials, and presentations for all sessions.
Compiling an online resource folder for participants with materials relevant to the training topics.
Conducting the full training course from 27 July to 2 August 2025, including presence on-site from 26 July.
Managing training documentation, including administering the evaluation survey.
Preparing the evaluation report and submitting it within one month after the training.
