No Hate Speech

The training activity took place
in Oslo, Norway
organised by Norwegian NA
6-10.2.2017

Aims & objectives

The main aim of the training course was to learn more about the tools and methods to address hate speech and to work with young people to counteract hate speech. More concretely, this was a training on how to use Bookmarks, the manual by Council of Europe and the No Hate Speech Movement.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training was offered for participants from Erasmus+ programme and partner countries, by the Norwegian NA. We had 28 participants from Austria, Hungary, Norway, Belgium, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Finland, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia and Lithuania. The trainers team was from Norway and Hungary.

Training methods used & main activities

The programme consisted of, among other things, a simulation game, brainstorming exercises and buzz groups, participants workshops adapting Bookmarks-exercises according to their contexts, planning of follow-up activities.

Outcomes of the activity

We conducted an online feedback survey, which yielded very positive reviews, complete with some tips on how to streamline the training even more for a potential second edition. The training yielded a number of follow-up activities that most participants followed through.
A few have also written posts about their experience of the training, e.g. these:

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My role was as one of two main trainers. I was involved in planning sessions, facilitating, following up, and evaluating the training course, along with the other trainer.

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
