The training activity took place
in Bari (Italy).
organised by Youth in Action Programme National Agency of Italy
17th – 21nd Jan 2010

Aims & objectives

NMC (from the Esperanto, Ni, mondlokaj civitanoj – We, global-local citizens) – promotes sustainable development and the participation of young people in decisions making at both global and local levels. Its field of action is the whole world, with a particular focus on cities. NMC's time frame extends to 2020.

NMC adopts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Millennium Development Goals and the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization as its framework of frameworks.

NMC establishes and develops a global-local environment where young people, policy makers, international organizations, private sector, civil society, media can collaborate to effectively speed up global change towards sustainability while increasing youth participation and influence in decision making processes. NMC is the first attempt to gather these different actors in the pursuit of common goals.

The program is promoted by the Puglia Region, the Italian Ministry of Youth and the Italian National Agency for Youth.

More than 30 organizations have contributed to its conception, among which the Inter-American Bank of Development, the International Labor Organization, the UNESCO, the UN-HABITAT, the MDG Campaign, the World Bank, the International Alliance of Cooperatives and the UCLG (United cities and local governments).

NMC is open to all young people who recognize themselves or their organizations at least in one of these characteristics:
