Aims & objectives

Aims and Objectives:

- to train youth activists, teachers and NGO workers who work with national and ethnic minorities in HR and HRE
- to mainstream the Compass manual and the non-formal education methodology when it comes to HR and acting against HR violations
- to enable the participants to run their own HR workshops within their organisations or schools
- to raise awareness on the situation of national and ethnic minorities in Slovenia and in Europe
- to raise awareness of HR violations, especially the media perceptions and the role of the media in connection to HR violations

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Target group:
- members of national and ethnic minorities living in Slovenia (Bosnian, Serbian, Italian, Hungarian and Croatian origin)
- youth activists, teachers and NGO workers who work with national and ethnic minorities in Slovenia

International dimension:
- several participants were members of the Slovenian minority living in Italy and Austria; other participants were Slovenian citizens with foreign origin (primarily coming from former Yugoslav republics)

Training methods used & main activities

- A 6 weeks on-line course through a learning platform with a forum and e-mail communication enabled us to organise discussions, debates, on-line activities, getting to know each other and exchange of experiences in working with national and ethnic minorities in Slovenia as well as reflect on Human Rights.

- Essay writing on different contemporary Human Rights dilemmas

- 3 day residential training where the participants experienced HRE workshops - activities from The Compass manual (Human Rights Education Manual with Young People, CoE)

Outcomes of the activity

Outcomes:
- the participants were made aware of the HR situation of other minority communities and groups then their own, they managed to exchange a huge amount of experiences and information; at the same time they acquired a better understanding of HR development and history, basic documents and instruments available to them.
- They were highly motivated to act for HR in future, in their organisations, their work place and in their own lives!
