Aims & objectives

Magic of NFL is an 9 days training course that allows you to step out of your daily context and discover the magical world of non-formal education, gain perspective on the different aspects of your passion – working with youngsters.
Objectives:
• Building of an understanding on differences in concept of youth work and non-formal education in different national contexts.
• Identifying the competencies that could be effectively developed through NFL that are required for young peoples’ active participation in social life and for employment.
• Exploring standards of good quality non-formal learning process and becoming more aware about various theories and tools of NFL approach that can improve the quality of NFL activities.
• Developing skills on designing and facilitating NFL activities (with emphasis on quality of debriefing) and receiving feedback and recommendations for improvement and further professional development as a facilitator of NFL activities.
• Providing a space to develop further ideas on using NFL activities with youth at the local level or through future projects of Erasmus+.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

In a group of 28 young people from 10 countries (Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Spain, Latvia, Romania, Sweden, Turkey and Italy)

Training methods used & main activities

through a experiential learning cycle, participants explored: meaning of learning and education, difference between formal, non-formal and informal learning, different styles of learning, group dynamics, creativity, characteristics of quality of non-formal learning process, what means competences and how to develop them, the magic of facilitation learning process, quality and ethics in facilitation, how to set-up your own learning goals.

Outcomes of the activity

All the participants appreciate importance of NFL methods in working with young people and develop their skills in facilitation of session for youth. Almost all participants noted what their found the training useful for their own personal development and one of them even expressed the desire to become a trainer in the future.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

To work on teambuilding and create an environment where the trainers and participants are in the best possible mindset to learn from the trainers and other participants, to create a framework where participants will learn and share about their particular knowledge and experience, and be creative and innovative in developing solutions to the issues presented during the project. To explore together with participants topics as motivation, youth participation, facilitation of learning activities.

I worked on this training for 9 days as a full time trainer.
