Local goes global!

The training activity took place
in Nova Gradiška, Croatia
organised by Association of deaf and hard of hearing
15.-22.10.2013.

Aims & objectives

The main aim of our training course was to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes of youth workers and youth leaders working with young people in rural and suburban areas struggling with social exclusion and poverty, and by so develop in them a new spirit for challenges and initiatives.
Moreover this training wanted to create a network within organizations working in rural areas in Europe.
Since organizing NGO is itself from underdeveloped area we wanted to deliver this project in order to connect with similar NGO's from other parts of Europe to create new ideas and methods for our target groups.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Target groups were youth workers, youth leaders and multipliers coming from underdeveloped or deprived areas with economic and geographical obstacles. There were 22 participants from Croatia, Turkey, Slovenia, Spain, Romania, Georgia, Moldova and Italy.

Training methods used & main activities

Working methods were established on the principles of non formal education with participant-centered approach.
The training course was performed using booklets published by SALTO Inclusion Source Center, t-kits and educational tools. For example we had a session where we implemented 'Take a step forward' from COMPASS.
Participants also learned by sharing their past experiences and making an idea exchange . Among our methods assessments also played an important role. Via daily reflections participants were able to evaluate the project in terms of learning process.

Outcomes of the activity

We believe that after this training participants understood better the functions and roles of the youth workers in rural areas, improved their personal action plan, developped their creativity and knew new methods of creative thinking, got awarness of cultural differences and working practices in the different countries and more active participants of the political, social and cultural processes in Europe.
Project promoters delivered the gained knowledge to their closest communities using the materials provided for the dissemination and exploitation of the results. Participants established new long-term partnerships and created ideas for the common projects in future what means also a new participation and learning opportunities for the members of their communities.
According to participants' final and ex post evaluation the training was successful.
