Aims & objectives

Youth in Action project, Training Course, Sub - Action 3.1 by name “It does matter which methods you use!!!“ was held in Novi Sad, Serbia from 12 – 19 February 2010.

The main aim was to empower group of youth workers, youth leaders, volunteers and activists who are working with marginalised groups through transfer of knowledge, skills and adopted working methods that they are going to implement in their future work with young people with fewer opportunities.

Objectives were:
-to increase awareness of problems related to work with young people with fewer opportunities
-to make an inclusive approach of working with young people with fewer opportunities.
-to promote tolerance and multikculturalism, diversities and values of differences

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Target group of the activity were youth workers, youth leaders, volunteers and activists who are working with marginalised youth groups.

The participants were from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Spain, Belgium and Portugal.
Total number of participants was 28.

Training methods used & main activities

The working methods of this training course were name games, energizers, team building games, different educative workshops and exercises that are promoting social inclusion and discussions on topics related to:
- Youth work and social education
- Communication skills
- Asertivity

The project was designed as an open learning process based on participants exchange of experiences. The training course followed the approach of non-formal and social education. A combination of the different creative and interactive methods was used by the well-experienced trainers’ team and designed upon the profile of participants.

Outcomes of the activity

The theme of TC was youth work as a method of development of social skills including young people with fewer opportunities. The focus was on development of skills related to next topics:
Youth work and social education
Communication skills
Asertivity

The course was designed as a mutual learning process in which, using diverse methods, participants compared their approaches and experiences with youth work and Youth in Action Programme. The course methodology foreseed direct involvement of the youth workers and youth work organizations that were present at the training course.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

In this training course my role was trainer. In total two trainers from Serbia were leading workshop activities.

As a trainer, I was responsible to cover topics that are related with cultural diversity, social inclusion, human rights issue, Youth in Action Programme advocacy, steps for future cooperation and workshops about writing project proposals.

I worked on this training for 8 days as a full time trainer.
