Intercultural and Citizenship

The training activity took place
in Jesi, Italy
organised by Coosmarche Onlus
26, 27, 28 /10/2011

Aims & objectives

The objective of such a workshop is to encourage young people to be protagonists in order to understand how the cooperation is an
indispensable element for the production of social development with creativity and innovation; for such a reason, the workshop was
experimented during the YAI event in Jesi.
The workshop is carried out through consequential steps of learning and practice.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group was composed by youth people (aged from 16 to 25 years) comming form Brazil, Congo, Italy and Portugal.

Training methods used & main activities

To allow young people to understand and metabolize concepts in a concrete way, the workshop foresees the experimentation of
Strategic Games. Those games, based on the mathematical logic, permit the analysis and the construction of the main skills, attitudes
and competences for learning, stimulating behaviours and capabilities able to provide greater success and fulfilment. Each game helps to explore the various transversal competences, according to own nature, making possible different answers to various stimulations received
by participants.
For example, during the workshop realised for the Second International Seminar of YAI in Jesi, the game “Cilada” was used, allowing the
reflection and thinking about the importance of communication, of strategy and of collaboration, because the secret of success and victory,
is moving in synergy with the other players. The young people were divided into groups, they learned the rules of the game and discussed
together the best strategies and moves to achieve a good result.

Outcomes of the activity

During the workshop, several Transversal Skills are presented, such as: leadership, communication, organization, motivation, entrepreneurship, ability to act under pressure and stress, creativity, culture of quality, dynamism, flexibility, ability to negotiate and to plan, interpersonal relationships.
The game becomes an opportunity to reaffirm and review the theoretical concepts presented by the workshop, so to strengthen
once again the cooperation, the communication and the integration, factors needed to elaborate successful strategies able to recognize
values and experiences regardless of cultural and ethnic differences.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

In the workshops realised during the Second International Seminar of YAI in Jesi (Italy), I used some innovative techniques based on
the use of Strategy Games to deal the themes of intercultural education and citizenship; the workshop was run by Fernando Marcelino,
trainer specialized in mathematical logic games.
The objective of such a workshop is to encourage young people to be protagonists in order to understand how the cooperation is an
indispensable element for the production of social development with creativity and innovation; for such a reason, the workshop was
experimented during the YAI event in Jesi.

I worked on this training for 3 days as a full time trainer.
