Exploring the digital dimension - Conference

The training activity took place
in Wien, Austria
organised by OeAD nationale Agentur für Erasmus+ und ESK - Austrian NA
24-27/02/2020

Aims & objectives

The conference aimed at exploring the digital dimension of youth workers competences, in the framework of the ETS model and cofronting it with some other local / national competence models in Austria. The conference addressed the needs for a better training and support of youth workers about digital competences, and started a revision of the ETS competence model in this direction.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group of participants was made of 100 participants from all European countries. The team was an international team involving myself together with a Finnish and an Austrian colleagues, and the representatives of Austrian NA, SALTO T&C, Austrian organization AufZAQ.

Training methods used & main activities

Even if this was a conference, we wanted to use non formal approaches so we alternated speeches ad experiences talks to session of peer discussion, small groups, open space workshops, a gallery of innovative digital youth work practices to experience directly (the "Museum of the Future") etc.

Outcomes of the activity

The conference produced several videos which are collected on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/exploring.digital/ and the final reports were shared in the form of articles on a special issue of online magazine LogBook : https://magazine.poywe.org/magazine/logbook-issue-6/3843/ . The competence defined the need for a transversal adjustment of the ETS model to add the digital dimension of competences into it, rather than adding a new "digital competence" as something separate from the rest.
