Exchange Seminar „Generation Europe”

The training activity took place
in Werftpfuhl, Germany
organised by Internationales Bildungs- und Begegnungswerk e.V. & Falken Brandenburg
18-27.11.2018

Aims & objectives

The Exchange Seminar was the first annual exchange out of three in a 3-year project on Active European Citizenship (youth dealing with local & European issues). Main goal was to form and empower the participants both through the international relations with their counterparts, but also within/as the original local group, that was planned to work together on the project following their return.

The aims for the specific activity were as follows:
- Creation of a safer space for a group to form together, to allow reflection and growth
- Creating critical awareness both and individually and towards the society the participants live in
- Reflecting racism - its origins and personal relations
- Understanding Democracy (incl. Human Rights) in a critical way (where does it work, where does it fail)

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group of the activity was 24 participants age 15-19, from Hungary, Italy & Germany, chosen through applications to local NGOs. The team of 6 consisted two trainers from each respective partner organisation, including myself as the general coordinator.

Training methods used & main activities

Non-Formal Education creative methods, to allow discussion regardless of language and other barriers.

Outcomes of the activity

The exchange seminar was a success: the mixed group was formed and motivated to work together, all aims were achieved fully.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

As coordinator on behalf of the host organisation, I was the contact person between the venue and the team before and during the activity, taking care of the overall budget with a close relation to the contact person on behalf of Falken Brandenburg. The responsibility extended to leading team meetings, planning and facilitating workshops, dealing with conflicts within the team and participants, as well as taking care of the development of the local group consisting young participants from Brandenburg. Following the activity I was responsible for the report to the funding organisations: Erasmus+, Internationale Bildungs- und Begegnungsstätte e.V. and Falken Brandenburg.

I worked on this training for 10 days as a full time trainer.
