TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Alejandra Piot Pérez-Abadín
-To equip participants with the skills needed to create and manage a youth NGO.
-For participants to effectively create a recruitment and communications strategy, a budget, and have the basic knowledge to organise events and manage the logistics.
-For participants to be more comfortable applying for grants and projects and to have a better understanding of corporate and institutional fundraising.
AEGEE suffered a challenging members change through the pandemic, which caused that a lot of the knowledge was lost. Organisations in Ukraine had the same issue because of the current war. The need of the training was to provide a 101 training for young people to be able to take leadership positions in their organisations and manage effectively the work, as well as to pass on the knowledge to their team mates and other members.
10 AEGEE members that came from: Italy, Germany, Latvia, The Netherlands, Poland and Turkey.
8 Ukrainian participants from different organisations.
We used case studies to be able to put them in different situations (drafting a budget and having difficulties or creating a social media strategy following certain conditions). We also did simulations (they had to talk with donors for them to give them economical support and negotiate the conditions with them). They did individual reflection group (reflecting on their wheel of privilege) and group discussions (sharing how surprised/or not they were with the results from the wheel of privilege and how do they see it in comparison with the group).
There will be a booklet with the content of the training. The overall feedback from participants was really positive, highlighting: "I sincerely thank you (Alejandra) for your enthusiasm and willingness to support at any moment. Your positive energy and openness to every question made the learning process very comfortable and effective. Thanks to you, I feel confident and ready for new challenges in community work!", "Thank you so much! You created a very friendly and warm atmosphere within the team! Honestly, your ease in delivering the information is an excellent technique!" and "Thank you, Ale, for everything. The methods, topics, and everything else were fantastic and clear. You all helped us speak freely and always encouraged us to share our opinions. Thank you all for this amazing training!"
I was the training manager. I was making sure that the preparations were done timely. We distributed equally the sessions with my co-trainer. We both gave feedback to each other on our outline sessions to make sure everything was doing according to the participants needs.
