TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Inês Xavier da Cunha
Participants learned about the different dimensions of culture and its impact on communication. Besides that, participants also developed tools to identify and solve intercultural conflicts through effective communication. The target organisation is ESN (Erasmus Student Network) and its members are international students who work with international people on a daily basis. This way, the training on Intercultural Communication fits their needs and probably increased their performance and facilitated their work in intercultural environments.
The organising team that was responsible for the logistics was mainly Austrian. Regarding the training, the mentors were from Hungary, the Netherlands and Portugal. My co-trainer was from Poland. Regarding participants, there were around 20 people from all around Europe: Hungary, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Italy, etc.
All the training activities were based on Non Formal Education methods and followed the Kolb Cycle model of learning. We used several techiques from role plays, videos, world café, discussions, brainstormings, simulations, etc.
The main outcome was a tool kit created by participants and composed by several tools that allow them to communicate effectively with people from different cultures. By the end of the training, participants were very satisfied because they achieved their goals for the training and their expectations were met, this information was collected by a feedback questionnaire.
My tasks as trainer was to co-design and co-deliver a four-days training about Intercultural Communication, which I did together with my co-trainer (Kasia) and with the feedback of the ESN Eduk8 Mentors (Liza, Inês Moreira and Osiris).
