TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Ana Umbelina Neves
The training aimed to strengthen youth workers’ intercultural competence, emotional intelligence, and communication skills, while promoting inclusive, participatory youth‑work practices. Objectives included developing self‑awareness, improving active listening and feedback skills, managing group dynamics, and applying non‑formal education tools in local organisations.
Group Composition:
24 participants (20–35 years old) from 8 organisations in Portugal and partner countries, including youth workers, volunteers, and young leaders. The group included participants with fewer opportunities.
Team Composition:
1 Lead Trainer, 1 External Trainer (me), 1 Logistics Coordinator, 1 Volunteer Assistant.
Non‑formal education methods including experiential learning, group dynamics, role‑play, simulations, small‑group work, storytelling, World Café, reflection groups, and daily evaluations.
Participants improved their socio‑emotional awareness, communication strategies, intercultural sensitivity, and confidence in facilitating non‑formal activities. They developed action plans to transfer learning to their organisations and strengthened international cooperation links.
Co‑designing the programme; facilitating sessions on emotional intelligence, communication, group cohesion, and intercultural awareness; guiding reflection groups; supporting activity design; adapting methods to group needs; ensuring a safe learning environment; contributing to evaluation and documentation.
Ana Umbelina Neves collaborated with our organisation between 2009 and 2015 as an external trainer delivering professional development for educators, trainers, and community practitioners. She contributed to several national and international courses under Juventude em Ação and Erasmus+, facilitating sessions on emotional intelligence, communication, group facilitation, and experiential learning. Ana’s work was consistently described as clear, structured, and highly responsive to diverse professional groups. I fully recommend her as a trainer for the SALTO TOY Platform.
