Aims & objectives

The training aimed to equip participants with skills in visual storytelling to support advocacy and engagement efforts.

Participants learned to:

-Understand the basics of visual storytelling and visual language.
-Apply advocacy strategies and use visual storytelling to support CCIVS advocacy work.
-Use “I narratives” and frameworks to promote a more inclusive and representative view of history and current events.
-Create cohesive and persuasive visual stories using video and photography to engage diverse audiences.
-Critically review developed materials and improve visual storytelling guidelines for future IVS digital content.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training brought together 18 participants, aged 22 to 30, from Belgium, France, Spain, Austria, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Argentina, Finland, Palestine, and Germany.

The facilitation team included Hamza Al-Shayeb, Julieta Blanco, and Javier Larios.

Training methods used & main activities

The training provided a hands-on “laboratory” of practices, combining creative activities, narrative storytelling, analysis of volunteering advertisements, media analysis, discussions, media production, and debates.

Outcomes of the activity

During the training, participants created 10 videos as part of their hands-on practice. They developed practical skills in visual storytelling and media literacy, gaining confidence in producing engaging content.

The training also raised awareness about how volunteering is portrayed in media, encouraging participants to critically analyse messaging and advocate for more accurate and inclusive representations.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

As a full-time trainer, I was responsible for:

Collaborating closely with the CCIVS team, other trainers, and partner organisation staff.

Attending all preparatory meetings organised by the team.

Preparing and submitting session outlines, handouts, bibliographies, and resource lists as required.

Ensuring all training materials complied with copyright regulations and included proper citations.

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
