Aims & objectives

Human rights became basis for building European values today. Ensuring continuity of this values is something civil society works on for decades now.

Recently, Internet and creation of new media – social media channels posed new challenges in front of human rights. Cases of hate speech online and discrimination got intensified, sometimes with very tragic outcomes. Privacy of people was brought into question. But also some positive challenges like opportunities to increase and improve participation and democracy or to use opportunities of global education. All of these challenges have responses made for “real world” but people are not aware that they apply to “virtual world” equally. CoE as institution protects HR in Europe and educate young people about them through HR education. By looking on COMPASS manual of CoE, the world most comprehensive tool for HR education, through the virtual glasses we want to fight for human rights online and we need YOUR help to do it! Every aspect of the human and citizen rights has its online dimension and with your help we can create a new umbrella approach that will enrich human rights education to tackle challenges in the virtual world!

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Main aim of the training was to create bases for youth organizations in Europe to work on fighting for human rights online through human rights education.
Participants were from Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia,Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Ukraine.

Training methods used & main activities

Methods that were used were simulations, group work, debate club, case studies analysis, world cafe, etc.

These methods ensure non-formal learning approach to the topics of the seminar.

Participants started sharing their experiences and approaches to youth work with their peers and learning process was structured to support them in learning from each other and while looking together for the new perspectives of the topic.

The main idea of the project was developed in a way to meet all the objectives set since it was focused on development and the upgrade with the online aspect of the methods for HRE provided in the Compass manual which is the main task of the project.

Outcomes of the activity

all the planned activities were implemented, every day we started first session devoted to presentation of the topics and vision of the topics as presented in Compass. Participants explored concept as presented in Compass and were able to decide on one topic that they would further explore. They selected topics according to their preference and previous experience in work in order to be able to contribute on best possible way. We organized parallel work on different topics by different groups of participants developing “virtual aspect".
