TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Louise Papadoperakis
Aim and description of the project:
Violent extremism and radicalization is a denial of
democracy and of human rights. Unfortunately in Europe
and beyond an increasing number of young people are
being drawn into extremist movements in their search for
identity and a meaningful place in society. Profound
feelings of injustice and frustration about their social
exclusion are amongst the main root causes contributing
to young people's vulnerability, and increase their
willingness to adhere to extremist, sometimes violent
groups, which offer an apparent social purpose to them.
Main objectives:
01. EXPLORE THE CONCEPTS OF RADICALIZATION AND EXTREMISM AMONG YOUTH AND THEIR ROOTS
02. MENTOR THE PARTICIPANTS TO LEAD CREATIVE ONLINE CAMPAIGNS TO COUNTER EXTREMISM AND
RADICALIZATION ONLINE.
03. ENHANCE THE YOUNG PEOPLE'S CRITICAL THINKING IN APPROACHING INFORMATION ONLINE, TO
FOSTER THEIR ABILITY IN DETECTING AND REACTING ON FAKE NEWS.
04. RAISE AWARENESS TOWARDS THE DANGERS OF EXTREMISM AND RADICALIZATION, SHOWCASING
DIFFERENT WAYS OF PREVENTION.
05. PRESENT EXPRESSIVE NARRATIVES THAT FIGHT THE PREVALANCE AND TACIT ACCEPTANCE OF
ONLINE HATE SPEECH IN ALL IT'S FORMS.

Counter-Radica'Lab aims to come up with creative approaches to counter all forms of extremism; using
trendy ways to attract young people in developing their critical thinking and raise their awareness on
the dangers of radicalization online. Besides, preventing extremism of youth can only be reached
through a holistic approach by understanding factors that lead youth to radicalization before
implementing the above responsive actions.
Facilitation of all the sessions: give theoritical and pratical information about the topic, create a dynamic group to raise awareness on the tropics addressed, stimulate participants' creativity.
Louise showed great facilitation skills. Her sessions were impactful and offered a safe and growing learning space for the participants.
