Beacon of Values

Aims & objectives

- developing an individual & group understanding of the term "values" and their everyday meaning(s).
- experiencing & reflecting upon the structure, activities & methods included in the „VALUEs Toolbox“
- being able to independently apply selected methods of the „VALUEs Toolbox“
- having the opportunity of exploring alternative methods & tools for their respective environment & field of work
- being able to reflect on their facilitation behavior, based on the principles of Non-Formal Education
- supporting participants in the development of workshop designs for their future local engagement

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

We had 14 participants from Cyprus, Germany and Romania - they were a mixed group of teachers, adult educators, youth workers, volunteer coordinators and facilitators.

Training methods used & main activities

we used a variety of non-formal education tools and activities, ranging from role-plays, built-in games and educational competitions, group work, teambuilding activities, to debates, trial facilitation workshops and mixed reflection.

Outcomes of the activity

- a cohesive team of multipliers of European values as a concept
- participants are now able to facilitate activities and methods dealing with the topic of Values, towards diverse target groups (youth, children, students, youth workers and teachers)
- participants created 3 national groups that prepared, facilitated and evaluated local workshops to test, use and improve methodology included in the Values ToolBox.
It was a clear success because most participants did more workshops locally than what they were asked. They also established in-country cooperations and are working together and meeting for more initiatives, outside the scope of the proposed project.
A training curriculum will be made available upon the completion of this small-scale partnership.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was a full-time trainer and co-designer of the concept (with my colleague from Cyprus), involved both in the preparation of the training (topic, design of activities, flow, as well as organizational and administrative preparation) and the evaluation of the training and the entire project. At the same time, I am one of the coordinators of the project on our national level, supporting the local workshops, the translation of all materials and all the dissemination efforts on national and European level.

I worked on this training for 6 days as a full time trainer.
