Aims & objectives

The Pilot Summer University ran as part of AEGEE-Europe's SAIL project, focused on sustainability, inclusivity, and active participation in youth mobility events. Teodora's training track covered policy and advocacy literacy for AEGEE local members — building their capacity to analyse policy issues, design advocacy campaigns, and produce evidence-based policy recommendations. The training also aimed to connect these skills to day-to-day work in local AEGEE sections.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Participants were young people from AEGEE local sections across Europe, with the international composition typical of AEGEE Summer Universities. The trainer team included AEGEE-Europe ambassadors from various countries, along with the local organising team from AEGEE-Munich.

Training methods used & main activities

Four sessions across the track used non-formal education methods throughout: opening brainstorm on participants' existing understanding of policy and advocacy, theoretical input followed by structured discussion, stakeholder mapping exercise, advocacy roadmap group work, case study analysis using a local public administration scenario, and two rounds of group work producing draft policy recommendations with peer feedback.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants built a working understanding of AEGEE's policy and advocacy structures and left with a draft advocacy roadmap and policy recommendations produced in groups. They demonstrated the ability to identify advocacy issues, map stakeholders, and structure actionable recommendations for a target audience — meeting the learning outcomes set by the SAIL project.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Teodora served as an AEGEE-Europe ambassador for the Munich Pilot Summer University, responsible for the full policy and advocacy training track. She designed and delivered four sessions, mentored the local organising team on participant needs analysis and event preparation, and submitted a reporting evaluation to AEGEE-Europe covering session outcomes and learning progress.

I worked on this training for 7 days as a full time trainer.
