Aims & objectives

Recognizing the crucial role of youth in shaping a more accepting society, “Act Against Hate” focuses on two key phases for youth workers:

·Preventing hate speech by educating the youth about its harms and promoting equality, and
·Teaching the skills necessary for social inclusion and active citizenship.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The project’s target group is anyone currently involved in working with young people (in any format) or express serious commitment to get involved in the future; from Hungary, North Macedonia, Lithuania, France, Greece, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, and Bulgaria.

Training methods used & main activities

Interactive Workshops: Participants engaged in hands-on workshops that facilitated discussions on the impact of hate speech and strategies for promoting equality. These workshops encouraged collaboration and active participation.

Role Play and Theater Techniques: Role play was utilized to help participants understand different perspectives related to hate speech and social inclusion. By acting out scenarios, participants practiced responding to hate speech and promoting inclusive behaviors. Theater techniques, such as forum theater, allowed participants to explore potential interventions and solutions in a supportive environment.

Group Discussions: Facilitated discussions encouraged participants to share their experiences and insights regarding hate speech and social inclusion. These discussions helped to create a shared understanding of the issues at hand.

Case Studies: Participants analyzed real-world examples of hate speech and social exclusion to identify effective strategies for prevention and response. This method fostered critical thinking and provided practical insights.

Skills-Building Exercises: Activities focused on developing specific skills necessary for active citizenship, such as conflict resolution, effective communication, and empathy-building exercises to enhance understanding of diverse perspectives.

Digital Tools Training: Participants learned how to utilize digital platforms and social media for advocacy, awareness campaigns, and fostering inclusive environments. This included practical sessions on creating engaging content and using technology to reach wider audiences.

Brainstorming Sessions: Participants engaged in brainstorming activities to develop innovative ideas and campaigns aimed at preventing hate speech and promoting social inclusion, encouraging creativity and collaboration.

Action Planning: Participants created actionable plans to implement what they learned in their communities, outlining specific steps to promote equality and prevent hate speech.

Toolkit for Preventing Hate Speech: A comprehensive guide that includes:
Educational Resources: Materials and activities for educating youth about the harms of hate speech and promoting equality.
Best Practices: Proven strategies for creating inclusive environments and addressing hate speech effectively.

Campaign Planning Guide: A step-by-step framework for participants to develop their own awareness campaigns against hate speech, including templates for messaging, outreach, and evaluation.

Digital Advocacy Resources: Guidance on using social media and digital platforms to advocate for equality and inclusion, with tips for creating impactful online content.

Follow-Up Support Resources: A plan for ongoing support and mentorship to assist participants as they implement their action plans and continue their advocacy efforts.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Curriculum Development: Worked with the organizing team to design a curriculum that addressed the needs of the participants while incorporating effective methods for learning about hate speech and social inclusion.

Facilitation of Training Sessions: Led the training sessions, guiding participants through workshops, role plays, and discussions while ensuring an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.

Role Play Coordination: Organized and facilitated role play activities, providing guidance and feedback to help participants effectively explore different scenarios related to hate speech and inclusion.

Resource Creation: Contributed to the development of the toolkit for youth workers, ensuring that it included practical resources and activities relevant to the participants' experiences.

Feedback Collection and Adaptation: Implemented mechanisms for collecting participant feedback during the training, using this information to adjust and improve the sessions in real time.

Networking and Community Building: Fostered connections among participants, encouraging them to collaborate and share experiences in addressing hate speech and promoting inclusion.

Support and Mentorship: Provided ongoing support to participants as they began to implement their action plans, helping them navigate challenges and providing resources to enhance their efforts.

Evaluation and Reporting: Assisted in evaluating the impact of the training and compiling reports on the outcomes to inform future projects and improve program effectiveness.
