Youth4Commons

Youth4Commons is a Seminar designed to mobilize youth workers to support young people in becoming active advocates for a sustainable reuse of common resources.

The "Youth4Commons - Youth Activism for Sustainable Common Goods in Europe” project is a Seminar designed to mobilize and empower youth workers across Europe to support young people in becoming active advocates for a sustainable and responsible reuse of common resources. Recognizing the critical role that youth play in driving social and environmental change, this project aims to inspire, educate, and support the next generation of young activists.
Often in many parts in Europe in rural areas and peripheral neighbourhoods of big cities useful services and public spaces to the community are not provided, because the resources of the government are not enough to ensure its management. Therefore, common goods are not well managed, or completely abandoned, such as green spaces or old buildings.
On the other hand, young people are increasingly now involved in ‘alternative forms’ of participation, including youth activism, community volunteering, online activism or youth social movements such as the climate activism movement. Related to this shift, youth civil society is also in a time of transition, moving from being based around structured hierarchical models of representation and participation to a more networked and diverse sector. Therefore youth can manage public spaces or community facilities putting together and organizing themselves and need tools and inspiration to do so.

The Seminar has the following objectives:
- to bring together organisations, youth workers, activists, trainers and policy makers able to share best practices in responsible and sustainable management of common goods for the participation of the local community.
- to create a space for peer-learning opportunities on how youth work can support youth participation and active action, involving Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programme opportunities
- to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and success stories related to the reuse and responsible management of common goods in rural areas or peripheral neighbourhoods.
-to inspire participants with innovative ideas and approaches to promote sustainability and resource-sharing initiatives within their communities and the way to equip young people with the necessary skills.
- to support and develop opportunities for ‘learning to participate’, raising interest in participatory actions and helping young people to prepare for participation;
- to encourage collaboration among participating organizations co-creating an outcome to make the knowledge in the seminar transferable to the field of youth in general in Europe
