In the context of 2014 International Year of Family Farming, an initiative of the United Nations, we – the ORGANIZATION FOR SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE STUDENTS (ONPRS), Bulgaria – would like to present you our new project:
“Youth volunteers in Family Farming - united for a world free from poverty and hunger”
The goal of the 2014 IYFF is to reposition family farming at the center of agricultural, environmental and social policies in the national agendas by identifying gaps and opportunities to promote a shift towards a more equal and balanced development.
Local production and consumption circuits based on family farming have a major part to play in fighting hunger especially when linked to social protection policies that address the needs of vulnerable peoples. Family farmers are embedded in territorial networks and local cultures, and spend their incomes mostly within local and regional markets, generating many agricultural and non-agricultural jobs.
This year is an unprecedented opportunity for farming-related institutions and organizations around the world to engage the public in a conversation about the vital role that smallholder farmers play in our daily lives.
The project is funded by the Erasmus Plus Programme, Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals - Mobility project for young people and youth workers.
Participants from 5 different European countries will meet together and take part in the various project activities. We plan a lot of ice-breakers, field activities, and sightseeing in the area. The participants will observe and take part in various agricultural activities, and will be part of a family farm for a week.
The activities will be carried out from 25.09 – 30.09.2014 (excluding travel) in Kustendil, Bulgaria. The area is one of the most fertile parts of Bulgaria, very rich in orchards, vegetable plantations and etc.
