Youth for food security

Making youths agents of zero hunger campaign and sustainable development through training them and re-branding the sector to make it attract more entrants.

To raise awareness and renew the commitment among the youth on initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable food production systems while empowering them to be agents of change

LOCATION OF THE PROJECT: The Project will be located in partner participating organizations countries offices

PROJECT COORDINATORS: The project coordinators are partner participating organizations representatives.

OWNER OF THE PROJECT: The Project will be/is owned by Erasmus + partner European Union countries.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The world is going to face two major challenges in the 21st century. The first challenge is how to feed the growing population; the second challenge is how to adapt to climate change. The biggest challenge is that the population is growing faster than food production and yet most energetic youth who would be taking up the mantle of producing enough food are not empowered to handle the challenges of agricultural sector and as a result they are abandoning it to the aging people who are less productive. It is mainly this less productivity that has always explained food shortages especially in less developed countries. So, with an aging and less productive population of farmers, it’s clear that agriculture needs to attract more young and energetic people if we are to appropriately address the issue of food security.
The project will therefore bring together the partner organizations to make sure that youth are empowered to overcome the challenges encountered in the agricultural sector industry by facilitating them to become proactive and dynamic leaders who advocate for improvement of agricultural production in their local communities to combat hunger, food security, and economic empowerment. This also underpins Sustainable Development Goal 2 which among other goals seeks to ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality by 2030.

PROJECT’S OVERALL GOAL To raise awareness and renew the commitment among the youth on initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable food production systems while empowering them to be agents of change

JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT: The project will address the negative perception associated with agriculture among communities, youth in particular in the partner participating organization countries target groups of people.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:
 To raise awareness and renew the commitment among the youth on initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable food production systems while empowering them to be agents of change
 To reduce levels of unemployment and dependence among the youths.
 Creating confident, stable, able and self-reliant future citizens who will be able to adapt to the cause.
 To educate youth and participating communities the importance of involving young and energetic youth in food production and proper usage.
 To transform youth into proactive and dynamic leaders who advocate for improvement of agricultural production in their local communities to combat hunger, food security, and economic empowerment.
 To transform the negative perception associated with agriculture among communities, youth in particular into a sector which is worthwhile through training and re-branding of young existing farmers into skilled farmers and at the same time making it attractive to new entrants as a worthy investment to counter the challenges related to food security in our communities and world at large.
