Volunteering at Erzsébet-camp

Erzsébet-program is looking for international volunteers to join its summer Erzsébet-camp and organise activities for children for 4 weeks during summer 2016.

Do you like to share your time and knowledge with children? Do you believe in non-formal education? Do you want to make a difference in the life of hundreds of disadvantaged children?

If your answer is yes, Erzsébet-camp is the place for you! You have the chance to carry out your own activity for children between the age of 8-14 let it be in the field of arts and crafts, music, dance, or any sport - the point is to interact in English with the children.

You are the one for the task if you are creative, enthusiastic and animated to share your knowledge with underprivileged children.
The campsite will be the Erzsébet-camp in Zánka, Hungary at Lake Balaton, where up to 2000 children can be hosted at a time.

What we expect:

The volunteers should organize and manage their own group activities for children related to any of their field of interest that can be engaging and educational for children. The duration of the activities should be approximately 2 hours and will take place in the morning. In the afternoon volunteers are expected to participate and help in other programmes of the camp. The language of Erzsébet-camp is Hungarian but the volunteers’ activities should be held in English.
Please note that all activities of the camp are optional and children can decide if they want to participate in the activities organized by the volunteers every morning in advance. Therefore, it is really important that the chosen volunteers should be able to motivate and animate children for active participation.

Requirements:

• Applicants should be between the age of 18 and 30
• English knowledge (CEFR – B2 level)
• Social sensitivity
• Good communication, organizational and animating skills
• To be a team player
It is an advantage if you have previous experience
• as a volunteer
• in the field of non-formal and informal education for children
• organizing and managing programmes for children

Tasks:

1. Elaborate, organize and manage activities for children using non-formal and informal learning methods - it should be considered that the children’s English knowledge is limited
2. Active participation and support of the organizers’ daily tasks

Dates:

The summer camps last for one week for the children - from Sunday to Friday during the months of June, July and August. The first summer camp week starts on the 19th of June and the last ends on the 26th of August.
The international volunteers can choose to work in one out of the 2 volunteering periods:

1. From 17th June till 16th July - 4 weeks
2. From 29th July till 27th August - 4 weeks

The volunteering terms include one training day in the beginning and one evaluating and reflecting day at the end. Please note that volunteers are expected to be available throughout the total time of the chosen period.
