Time for the Folk

Idea is to interest youth in folk art. We will teach each other techniques, used by local artists in our countries and learn how villagers lived in the past.

<<< If you want to participate, please send your PIF and answer the questions: >>>
1. What experiences and competences will your organization bring to the project? Describe how the project meets the needs and objectives of your organization.
2. What folk-art techniques are typical to your region and which ones your participants could teach others during a few-hours workshop?

--------------------------------------------------------------
Idea of the project is to interest young people in folk art, with it's traditional themes,
materials and methods. During the series of workshops participants will teach each other few
techniques, used by local artists in their countries, such as making fabric dolls and decorations from straw or beads. They will also visit a museum of folk art and learn a lot about how villagers lived
in the past.
It will help us to discover our roots and find things that are common to all European nations. We also want to take a look forward, to understand a place that traditional art can take in the modern world.
At the end, we will organize an exhibition of our works to share results of the exchange with local community.

The project will take place in October 2018, in Tarnów, Poland.
We need 4 partners: two from Program Countries and two from Partner Countries. Each of them should send 4 participants 13-19 years old + 1 leader, that are interested in art, folklore or just like to do something with their own hands.

Summary
Main theme of "Time for the Folk" project is folk art. It will help us to discover our roots and find things that are common to all European nations. We also want to take a look forward to understand the place that traditional art can take in the modern world. Participants of the project will be 30 young people, aged from 13 to 19, from 6 countries. Some of them are youth with fewer opportunities. The exchange will take place in Tarnów in Poland. At the course of workshops young people will teach each other traditional techniques used in their local folk art. They will also create their own artworks – based directly on these made by the local artists as well as using modern themes. All works will be presented on the exhibition, that participants will prepare by themselves. It will be an opportunity to make contact with local community. Youth will talk with them about value of folklore and it's place in lives of modern people. During the exchange young people will visit many interesting places, connected with the project's theme. Information collected at these trips will be used to prepare a presentation about folk art. Showing this presentation in participant's schools and organisations will be another way of sharing project's results. The exchange will boost youth's interest in folk art and contribute to promote it among broader group of people. Moreover, participants will gain practical skills in doing decorations with a couple of traditional techniques, improve cooperation and communication competences (mainly in English) and, through exploring folklore of different countries, will strengthen sense of affiliation to their local as well as European communities.
