Co-developing digital methods and interactive tools like NFC to engage youth with fewer opportunities in exploring local cultural heritage.
EMC Foundation (Italy), leveraging its extensive experience in cultural heritage and digital innovation, proposes the "Sound Echoes" project within the framework of an Erasmus+ KA210 Small-scale Partnership in the Youth sector. The project addresses the growing need to engage young people—particularly those with fewer opportunities or at risk of social exclusion—through innovative, non-formal educational methods that bridge historical archives and modern technology.
Rooted in the preservation of over two centuries of musical and civil history, the project aims to transform traditional heritage into an interactive digital ecosystem. Rather than focusing solely on physical infrastructure, "Sound Echoes" centers on a shared transnational methodology: co-developing and testing digital tools such as NFC proximity systems, generative sound engines, and interactive storytelling.
Main Objectives:
- Digital Inclusion & Innovation: To equip youth workers and young people with digital skills, teaching them how to turn historical archives and local heritage into contemporary creative content.
- Social Inclusion: To use music, soundscapes, and digital arts as inclusive tools to reach and empower disadvantaged youth, fostering active participation and civic engagement.
- Transnational Collaboration: To establish a stable network between European youth organizations, music schools, and cultural centers to exchange best practices in non-formal education.
Key Activities & Outputs:
- Transnational Youth Workshops: Collaborative sessions where young participants from partner countries meet to experiment with digital audio tools and co-create interactive "sound paths" linked to local history.
- Digital Toolkit: The creation of a shared methodological guide and digital open-source resource, allowing other European organizations to replicate the model in their local communities.
Through this collaborative approach, "Sound Echoes" merges historical memory with future-oriented digital skills, creating a lasting impact on participants, fostering intercultural dialogue, and reinforcing European values through the universal language of music.
