Shared steps: exploring folklore and community through music

We´re organizing an international Youth Exchange hosted in the rural area of Cabezón de la Sal (Cantabria, Spain). Inspired by the legacy of Matilde de la Torre, this project uses intangible cultural heritage—specifically traditional music, singing, and folk dance—as a tool for non-formal education, intercultural dialogue, and social inclusion.Through peer-to-peer creative laboratories, practical workshops led by local artists (pandeireta, traditional dance, flamenco), and community dialogues, participants will bridge their own cultural roots with Cantabrian traditions. The project places a strong emphasis on diversity, actively welcoming youth from dissident backgrounds to explore and amplify marginalized realities in non-urban environments.
Together, participants and the local community will co-create a public final performance, building an intergenerational bridge between the elderly keepers of tradition and international youth, while transforming the rural space into a platform for active citizenship and shared European identity.
