Promoting Sustainable Living

This is a KA1 – mobility of youth workers training project focusing on mainstreaming of education on sustainable development.

Dear Friends,

ASHA is looking for partners for an Erasmus+ KA1 training programme on peace education, to be submitted for the April 30 deadline. The call is open until March 31, please see details below.

Title: Promoting Sustainable Living

Description:

This is a KA1 – mobility of youth workers training project focusing on mainstreaming of education on sustainable development.

This is a long-term training programme on mainstreaming of education on sustainable development, directed at youth workers from 10 European countries. The main aim of the programme is to develop youth workers’ competences in using education for sustainable development (ESD) across EU countries using non-formal educational methods. The methods applied during the programme foster a holistic approach to sustainable development, including its three dimensions: social, economic and environmental dimensions. The project stems from the experience and expertise of the ASHA Centre (we have implemented two long-term programmes within the UK YiA TCP programme in 2012-2013, having trained almost 200 people as well as our experience from a long-term Erasmus Plus KA1 project Education for Sustainable Development Training). It is also based on the resources available locally at the Forest of Dean and across Gloucestershire, looking at the connection between local action undertaken by young people and global responsibility of all communities and societies for a sustainable development. This course is adapted based on tremendous feedback we have received from over 500 participants we have hosted during our sustainable development courses.

The Applicant, the ASHA Foundation, acts as a hosting organisation.

The courses will be held in November, December (2015) and January 2016 at the ASHA Centre (Gloucestershire, UK). All three courses will be based on innovative and experimental methodology, incorporating elements of theatre, personal development, ecology, environmental studies and UN’s ESD framework. These three courses will involve 96 people (32 people per course).

ASHA’s in-house team of trainers and facilitators with external inputs will run the courses jointly with experts assuring the innovative character of the workshops. We plan to involve local politicians representing main UK parties (Conservatives, Labour, LibDem, Greens) to give participants an opportunity to learn how sustainable development is becoming a mainstream political issue in the UK.

The project’s key objectives are:
- To mainstream ESD in youth work
- To educate participants in three key aspects of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic dimensions and the ways they relate to youth work;
- To provide time and space to share experiences, methods and realities of ESD in all participating countries, thus ‘europeanising’ the learning experience;
- To strengthen co-operation between partner organisations, including development of future projects and resources

As a result, participants will obtain new competencies, thoughts and observations. They will also have an increased awareness of the applicability of ESD in other European countries as well as its relationship with the world of politics. The course’s impact will be based on future joint projects which participants will develop during all three trainings (also in the longer term).

The cost of board and lodging at the ASHA Centre, as well as the costs of the training programme will be fully covered by an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Grant.

As far as travel cost reimbursements are concerned, ASHA will reimburse a percentage of the overall cost (80%) up to the limits set out in the E+ Guide (flat rates).
