Project Huh! will allow young people with less opportunities to break linguistic barriers and be able to participate in intercultural learning activities.
In fact, English is the working language in the vast majority of Youth Exchanges projects organized within the frame of Erasmus + Programme.
Although its use is very functional and it helps to manage and prepare activities for young people from different countries, we can not ignore that, on the other hand, this requirement is an obstacle for many other young people who do not know English.
Youth Exchanges should include a wider number of young people without any exception and the inclusion criteria must prevail. In addition, multilingualism is one of the cornerstones of the European project and a clear symbol of the European Union aspirations for unity in diversity.
We hope that the development of the Project Huh! will allow organisations to develop more accessible Youth Exchanges and bring the Erasmus + Programme closer to young people with fewer opportunities.
Summary.
Project Huh! is expected to design a set of tools and working methodologies that will give to any organisation that develops a Youth Exchange in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme a useful guide to integrate participants who are not proficient in English, increasing their inclusion and their educational opportunities, without having to rely on a vehicle language.
Project Huh! will be carried out in two stages: the first one, a technical work team composed of students (mostly, university students), experts from communication organisations and Tutors-Professors will design tools and working methods. The second one will gather a group of experienced organisations which will assess with the aim of implementing, testing and correcting the drafted design.
Objectives.
- Creating tools and methodologies to be implemented in Youth Exchanges within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme
- Making more accessible Youth Exchanges to everybody and especially, for those youngsters with fewer opportunities, achieving a bigger representation of young people in future exchanges.
- Bringing the Erasmus+ programme closer to disadvantaged young people, improving their self-esteem.
- Raising awareness of the cultural value of the different official European languages.
- Stimulating Erasmus+ activities within the Universities by senior students and professors.
- Building networks between the participating organisations to develop more inclusive Youth Exchanges and sharing results and methodologies once the project is over.
- Creation of a quality seal to identify those Youth Exchanges that include the pre-established requirements to be considered "free of language barriers".
Main activities.
In order to reach the objectives of the project, the following activities will be carried out:
• Coordination and management in its different stages.
• Activities to develop tools and methodologies.
• Discussion group simulations to test those tools and methods
• Exchanges between different working groups and its participants
• Visibility activities and dissemination of results.
