Nazism through Cinema

Acquaintance with the concept and reality of Nazism through Cinema, project aims to teach young people on the subject of Nazism and its horrible reality

The Project: Acquaintance with the concept and the reality of Nazism through Cinema
Basic scope: The project aims to teach young people on the difficult thus important subject of Nazism and Neo Nazism that seems to have a lot of followers today. There are a number of important quality movies that show the negative and realistic truth about Nazism and the effect on the lives of people. Many young people believe that this movement is “modern” and “revolutionary”, so they need to show their disappointment by following it, without totally understanding the consequences.
Goals:
The main goals of the project are:
• Young people will understand the main concepts of Nazism and neonazism and the historic reality of living under their rule of a Nazi regime, or living in a country defeated and occupied by the Nazis
• Young people will get in touch with the hard evidence behind the rhetoric and ideas that neonazism offers and the historic reality that hides
• Young people will be taught using cinema and the proper filmography
• Young people will be taught on how to make a movie and express themselves usinf the art of cinema
• Its group of participants will present the specific circumstances of the neonazi reappearance in their countries
Methodology: People nowadays and especially young people haven’t lived and consequently don’t understand the real meanings of Nazism. It seems that many European countries have been involved in neonazism incidents that cannot deal with. The increase of immigrants and refuges all around Europe, and possible negative features as a result, may seem as a threat to young people that believe that in many cases these foreigners, steal their jobs, their lives, their country etc, and this leads to a hostility to everything that is not ours, increasing the incidents of violent nationalism.
People of different cultures have been victims of neonazism just because they are different, even though they live in these countries and were born in these countries, just because they are different in color or have different eyes or hair. These phenomena make this need for awakening crucial, and young people need to understand and unveil the “revolutionary” aspect of neonazism, giving to it the real dimensions.
In order to make young people understand the real dimensions of fascism and neonazism, a number of quality European films will be used. There will be a main workshop that will have duration of 10 days, where the young people will come to Greece from different European countries and specifically to Livadeia, Voiotia. Through the acknowledgement of Greek culture and hospitality, they will participate in the screening of a number of cinema movies (6-8) concerning the specific subject. Each movie then will be discussed and all together will discuss which are the positive (if any) and negative aspects of neonazism and fascism, leading to discover by themselves the real meaning.
